Happy New Year and Feast of Nativity to you and your family.
It gives me a great pleasure to wish you all a happy new year and a blessed Nativity Feast. May many returns find you enjoying the love and peace of our Lord, God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our beloved God, fulfilling His merciful justice and justified mercy, planed to save us from eternal damnation which we deserved because of our sins. He put many prophecies in the Old Testament about His incarnation to save us so that when we see them fulfilled we could believe.
The Messiah is the Son of God: “Yet I have set My King on My holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, “You are My Son. Today I have begotten You”” (Ps. 2:6,7), “Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? … What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, if you know?” (Prov. 30:4), and “For unto us a Child is born. Unto us a Son is given… And His Name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Is. 9:6) They were all fulfilled in the Lord Jesus as the angel said to St. Mary, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35)
The Messiah is to be born from a virgin and be called Immanuel: “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” (Is. 7:14, Mt. 1:23)) We read in the N.T., “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.”(Mt. 1:18)
The Messiah is eternal and to be born in Bethlehem: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.” (Micah 5:2) It was fulfilled in (Mt. 2:1) “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king” and in (Lk. 2:4-7) “Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”
The kings will bring Him gifts and worship Him: In Mt. 2:1-11 we read that wise men from the East followed a star and came to Israel to look for the “King of the Jews” and to worship Him. “11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” David the prophets inspired by the Holy Spirit prophesied in Ps/ 72 and said, “9 Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before Him, … 10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring presents; The kings of Sheba and Seba will offer gifts. 11 Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; All nations shall serve Him. .. 17 His name shall endure forever; His name shall continue as long as the sun. And men shall be blessed in Him; All nations shall call Him blessed. 18 Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things! 19 And blessed be His glorious name forever! And let the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen and Amen.” (Ps. 72)
